Machinery manufacturers supplying Ghana

Ghana is a steady market for us rather than a volatile one, and the enquiries tend to be better prepared than average. A good share of our work here goes to processors adding a stage they currently outsource, and to district level factories set up under government industrial programmes, where the specification has to survive procurement scrutiny as well as work on the floor.

Where the demand sits

Cocoa is the obvious one, though rarely the whole bean to bar chain. More often it is roasting, winnowing, liquor and butter pressing, with the finished product going to an existing brand. Palm oil is the second cluster, from smallholder scale presses in the Western and Ashanti regions up to continuous refining. Then cassava into gari and flour, rice milling in the Volta region, and fruit processing built around pineapple, mango and citrus, where the fruit is seasonal and the line has to be worth owning for the months it is idle. Water treatment and bottling lines come up constantly, and so does cold storage.

Sizing for a seasonal crop

The mistake we see most often in Ghana is a line sized for peak harvest that then runs at a fraction of capacity for two thirds of the year. Where a crop is seasonal we will usually propose a smaller continuous line plus buffer storage, or a line that can be switched between two crops with a changeover rather than a rebuild. It costs less to buy and considerably less to run, and we would rather argue that case at quotation stage than sell you the larger machine.

Electrical supply

Ghana runs at 230 V single phase and 400 V three phase, 50 Hz. Motors, panels and switchgear are built to that at the order stage. Where a site has a known voltage sag problem we will specify protection for it rather than leave it to the installer.

Shipping and documentation

Tema serves Accra and the south, Takoradi is often the better call for the Western Region and for anything continuing to the north. Goods are subject to conformity assessment through the Ghana Standards Authority, and we prepare the technical documentation to suit. Every shipment leaves with the packing list, commercial invoice, certificate of origin and the inspection paperwork the destination requires. If you are bidding a district factory or a public tender we will supply the specification and the manufacturer authorisation letter in the format the tender document asks for, and we will quote on the incoterms the bid is written against rather than converting it for you afterwards.
