Tanzania has become one of our faster growing markets, driven less by large single plants than by a steady run of medium sized processors moving from manual or semi automatic operation to a proper line. The enquiries are practical and price sensitive, and we tend to quote two options rather than one.
Sunflower, cashew and the crops that drive demand
Sunflower oil is the standout. Tanzania grows a great deal of sunflower and still imports edible oil, so pressing, filtering and refining lines are the most frequent enquiry we get from the country, particularly around Dodoma and Singida. Cashew is the second, with the interest being in processing domestically rather than exporting the raw nut: cutting, shelling, peeling and grading equipment. Beyond those, maize and rice milling, sisal handling, fruit pulping, dairy on a smaller scale than Kenya, and cold storage for the fish trade on the coast and around the lake.
Building for a workshop, not a laboratory
Equipment going to Tanzania is often maintained by the team that runs it, some distance from any dealer network. That shapes what we recommend. We favour mechanically simple machines with parts that can be sourced or fabricated locally, we supply a spares list with the quotation rather than after the first breakdown, and we will steer you away from a control system that needs a specialist on a plane every time it faults. Where a more automated option genuinely earns its place we will say so, but it should be a decision rather than a default.
Electrical supply
Supply is 230 V single phase and 400 V three phase at 50 Hz. Rural sites frequently run on generators or on a weak grid connection, so tell us which and we will size the starting current accordingly.
Ports and transit
Dar es Salaam handles almost everything, with Tanga and Mtwara occasionally better for specific destinations. Goods go through conformity assessment for the Tanzania Bureau of Standards, arranged before shipment. Dar es Salaam is also the head of the Central Corridor, so if your cargo continues to Zambia, Burundi or the eastern DRC we pack and document it for the inland leg from the outset. That means heavier crating, moisture protection for a journey that can take weeks rather than days, and marking that survives more than one handover. Tell us the final town rather than the port and we will quote the whole distance with a lead time that covers it.
