Electrical specification is fixed at the order stage, so motors, panels and switchgear are built for the supply at your site rather than adapted after the container is opened.

Kenya is our main East African market and the one where buyers most often arrive with a throughput figure already worked out. It is also a transit market: a meaningful share of what we land at Mombasa continues inland to Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan, and that changes how a shipment should be packed and papered.

What we supply here

Dairy is the largest category. Pasteurising, homogenising, packaging in pouch and carton, yoghurt and cultured product lines, and cold chain to hold it, sized anywhere from a cooperative collecting a few thousand litres a day up to a regional processor. Horticulture is the second: grading, washing, cold rooms and packhouse equipment for the flower, avocado and French bean trade, where the product has to reach an export standard rather than a domestic one. Then maize milling, tea processing equipment for the highland estates, edible oil refining, and water treatment from borehole through to bottling.

Cold chain is a specification, not an accessory

Most of the Kenyan enquiries that go wrong do so because refrigeration was treated as something to add later. If your product needs a temperature held from the collection point to the buyer, the cooling capacity, the insulation and the standby power all belong in the first quotation. We will ask about ambient temperature at site and about how often power fails there, because both change the plant you should be buying.

Electrical supply

Kenya runs 240 V single phase and 415 V three phase at 50 Hz. That 415 V figure matters: equipment built for a 400 V nominal supply will run in Kenya, but the margins are tighter than people expect on older motors, and we specify accordingly.

Import requirements and routing

Kenya operates pre export verification of conformity, so goods are inspected in the country of supply and a Certificate of Conformity is issued before shipment. Arriving without one is expensive and slow. We prepare the technical file for that inspection as part of the order.

Mombasa is the discharge port, with rail to the Nairobi inland container depot for most cargo, which is usually faster than road for a full container. For transit cargo continuing up the Northern Corridor we crate and mark for the longer journey rather than for the port alone, and we will quote the delivered price to the final town rather than stopping the price at Mombasa.
